Zane G. Gillogly, age 84 of Hanover, Illinois, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Hanover United Methodist Church. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to The Gillogly Family, Care of Law-Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 309, Savanna, Illinois 61074.
Zane was born on May 17, 1931, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Glen and Margaret (O’Brien) Gillogly. Zane married the love of his life Bonnie Bearsley on January 11, 1958. He served his country in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 and was in the Korean Conflict and also played fullback for the Navy’s Football team, during his time in the service, Zane was a boxer with a 22-0 record, most of which were knockouts. His career was at Micro Switch (Honeywell) in Freeport, Illinois for 35 years as a machinist. He also drove for Tri State Travel Tours for 13 years, and transported cars for Tri State Auto Auction and Harsted Wholesale for 13 years.
Zane loved his community and was an active member umpiring baseball, softball and played Santa for 20 years. He was also an active member of the Hanover United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 20 years and ushered for 50 years. He was well known for his warm smile, kind words, caring heart, and firm handshake.
Zane is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Scott Gillogly of Clinton, Iowa, Brian (Joann) Gillogly of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter, Dottie (Greg) Olson of Bettendorf, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jennifer Gillogly of Clinton, Danny Gillogly of Clinton, Hannah and Bridget Ralson of Madison, Lucas (Amanda) Olson of Miseau, Germany and Joshua (Jessica) Olson of Bloomington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gregg.
