Wilmer Harold Walter

Wilmer Harold Walter, age 91, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at the Savanna Bible Church, with Reverend Mike Meyer officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Zion Cemetery, rural Savanna. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be given to the Savanna Bible Church in Wilmer’s memory.
Wilmer was born April 15, 1925, the son of Adam and Elizabeth Esther (Anderson) Walter in Massbach, Illinois. He attended Massbach Country School. Wilmer married Avis Johns in 1946 at the First Presbyterian Church in Savanna. Wilmer and Avis farmed in the Massbach area for 64 years until Avis’ death on May 29, 2011.
Wilmer farmed his entire life and served as a previous board member of the Zion Cemetery. Wilmer’s faith was very important to him. He served as a board member of the Savanna Bible Church, where he also taught Sunday School. He loved to study the Bible and Bible prophecy. He enjoyed family gatherings, singing, discussing current events and politics, conversation with friends, ice cream, and hosting church parties on the farm.
Wilmer will be dearly missed by his six children, Dan (Pat) Walter of St. Louis, Missouri, Jan (Rick) Ross of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Bill (Cindy) Walter of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Doug (Janice) Walter of Massbach, Illinois, Elizabeth (Pat) Hendren of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Joan (Jerry) Anderson of Savanna; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Wilmer is preceded in death by his wife, Avis; parents, Adam and Esther, one sister, Virginia Haas; and one granddaughter, Caitlin Hendren.
