Wilma was born December 6, 1934, at Derinda Township, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbert and Caroline (Stricker) Haring. She married Walter Edward Knapp on May 24, 1953, at First Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Wilma and Walter farmed together in the Savanna area for many years. Wilma also worked at the Mt. Carroll Motel, Good Samaritan in Mt. Carroll, and Paradise Harbor Restaurant in Savanna. She enjoyed word searches, bingo, flower gardening and feeding and watching birds. Wilma loved to decorate for all of the holidays, both in the house and in the yard. She was a member of the 4 C’s and the Savanna Moose Lodge. Most important to Wilma was being able to watch her grandchildren play sports, and she never missed a game.
Wilma is survived and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Arnette (Edward) Heisler of Mt. Carroll, Lori (Scott) Cravatta of Mt. Carroll, and Vicki (Brian) Prowant of Savanna; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Leona Meehan of California, Donna Christens of Lena, Illinois, and Maxine Grauf of Missouri; four brothers, Ed (Elsie) Haring of Shannon, Illinois, Harvey (Pat) Haring of Fulton, Illinois, Robert (Barbara) Haring of Lena, Illinois, and Marvin Haring of Freeport, Illinois; her friend and companion, Duane Law; and many nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; two sons, Leland and Kenneth Knapp; and one sister Virginia Haring.
