William “Bill” M. Wagner, age 90 of Thomson, Illinois, lived for his community, family and friends. Bill died on March 10, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Burial with military rites will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson.
Bill was born on December 1, 1923, the son of Ben and Maude (Mitchell) Wagner in Thomson. Bill attended Thomson High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He married June South in 1954.
After Bill was discharged from the Navy, he worked as a Union Carpenter with the Chicago District Council of Carpenters in Bensenville, Illinois, before retiring in 1988. He moved back to Thomson after retiring. He loved his community and was always there to help out. Up until recently, Bill was always at the graveside for military burials and was active in his church. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Thomson. He loved the outdoors, gardening and canning. He was a loving father, loyal friend and will be dearly missed by many.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Dottie Liberio of Thomson; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Root of Thomson and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by two sons, Jim and John Wagner and one daughter, Patricia Olivarez.
