William "Bill" Petersen

William “Bill” Petersen, age 82, of Sabula, Iowa died July 15, 2012 at Mercy Medical South Living Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa with Father Don Hertges as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Church. Burial of ashes will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula, Iowa with full military rites.
Bill was born April 2, 1930 in Sabula, Iowa, the son of Herman F. and Essie F. (Edlen) Petersen. He was raised on the family farm near Sabula, and attended Union Township Country School. Bill graduated from Sabula High School, Class of 1948. He served the United States Air Force in Germany and England as a Court Stenographer, achieving the rank as Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1955. While in London, Bill met his wife to-be, Josephine Reynolds. They were married August 19, 1955 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sabula.
Bill worked for the Maclean-Fogg Corporation in Savanna as a Maintenance Supervisor, from the company’s establishment in 1976 until his retirement in 1995. His career with Maclean-Fogg took him to Japan, Germany, Switzerland and England. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, water skiing, snow skiing, ice skating and roller blading up until his 70’s. He also enjoyed golfing in his later years.
William is lovingly remembered by his wife, Josephine; two sons, Michael (Valerie) Petersen of Ramsey, Minnesota, and Daniel (Michele) Petersen of Iowa City, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Camryn and Sydnee. William is preceded in death by both of his parents, and one brother, John.
