William J. Mcgowan

William J. McGowan, Age 79 of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at SS. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given in Bill’s honor for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll.
Bill was born May 6, 1928 in Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Elmer Theodore and Clara Margaret (Wilming) McGowan. He attended schools in Delmar, Iowa, Lanark, Illinois and then Mt. Carroll, where he graduated with the Class of 1947. Bill married Janet Greenlees November 20, 1948.
Bill worked for General Electric in Morrison, Illinois for many years, retiring in 1991. He was a faithful member of SS. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll. Bill enjoyed fishing and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved spending time with family at gatherings.
Bill will be dearly missed by three daughters, Linda (Donald) Close of Apple Canyon Lake, Illinois, Julie (David) Castro of Dubuque, Iowa and Mary Catherine (Tim) James of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; six grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Jonathon and Alexander Castro and Evan and Alyssa James; two brothers, Robert (Norma) McGowan of Schiller Park, Illinois and Charles (JoAnn) McGowan of Fulton, Illinois; and his lovable Schnoodle, “Petie.” Bill is preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Mahlon.
