William Joseph “Joe” Geiger, age 86, of Hanover, Illinois, died on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Galena. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Friday at Law – Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, Illinois.
Joe was born on December 2, 1925, the son of Joseph John and Madeline (Schmitt) Geiger in Cascade, Iowa. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army achieving the rank of Corporal. He farmed all of his life in the Hanover area until he semi retired and started mowing lawns for people. Joe loved tinkering with small gasoline engines.
Joe is survived two nieces, Kathy (Jerry) Mapes of Stockton, Illinois, and Janet Wenzel and friend Harry Flesner of Galena, Illinois; one nephew, Bill (Theresa) Reusch of Roscoe, Illinois; and five great nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy in infancy; two sisters and their husbands, Lucille and John Reusch and Marie and Edward McCoy; and one brother and his wife, Alfred and Jean Geiger.
