William Edward “Bill” Galor, age 80, of Lanark, Illinois died Friday, December 17, 2010 at his home. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home, Lanark, Illinois. Memorial service and burial will take place at a later date.
Bill was born on August 14, 1930, the son of Earl H. and Mildred Mae (Hamburg) Galor in Tampico, Illinois. He attended Polo High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954 -1961. Bill married Dona R. Skjordal on December 30, 1955 and later married Mary Evelyn Topp on February 18, 1967 in Sterling, Illinois. Mary died on January 24, 2010 in Freeport, Illinois.
After he was honorably discharged in 1961, Bill began working for Central Stamping in Polo. Bill later worked at Elkay Manufacturing in Lanark for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1995. He was an excellent cook and baker and was known for his rhubarb deserts. Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bill will be dearly missed by one daughter, Janice Majors of Lanark; ten sons, Jerry (Sheila) Galor of Rockford, Illinois, William “Bill” (Cathey) Allen of Kingsville, Texas, Robert “Bob” (Brenda) Allen of Sterling, Illinois, Doug (Julie) Galor of Loves Park, Illinois, James (Tina) Allen of Freeport, Illinois, William Galor II of Lanark, Brian (Patty) Galor of Mt. Morris, Illinois, Christopher Galor of Polo, Illinois, John Allen of Lanark, and Patrick (Kathy) Galor of Mt. Morris; thirty-three grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara (Fritz) Bartha of Rochelle, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and one sister, Shirley Savage; and two grandsons in infancy, William David and Dustin Edward.
