William “Bill” A. Schreiner, age 68, of Fulton, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Pastor Robert Bridges, of Calvary Baptist Church, Savanna, Illinois will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 7, 2006. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois.
Bill was born in Savanna, Illinois on May 28, 1938, the son of Raymond and Hilda (Flowers) Schreiner. Bill graduated from Savanna High School in 1956. Bill was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Savanna, Illinois. He was a career Navy man. While in the Military he served as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His service allowed him the opportunity to sail on the USS Hornet. He was awarded the following medals, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (One Star), Vietnam Campaign Medal (1960), and Good Conduct Medal (Five Awards). Bill received an Associate of Science Degree from State Technical Institute, Memphis, Tennessee. After retiring from the Military he opened a small engine repair shop in Savanna. He also sold Military Life Insurance. He enjoyed playing the saxophone and listening to Jazz Music.
Bill is survived by four sons; William Schreiner, Jr. of Hawaii, Eddie Schreiner, of Tennessee, Sy Schreiner, of Alabama, and Jerry Schreiner; four daughters, Virginia Schreiner, of Hawaii, Tammy Schreiner, of Hawaii, Terri Schreiner, of Hawaii and Misty Schreiner, of Alabama; and several grandchildren; one brother Lyle (Debbie) Schreiner, of McAlester, Oklahoma; a sister Dorothy Hartman and her friend, Ron Nemec, of Savanna; a step-mother Eileen M. Schreiner, McAlester, Oklahoma, a sister-in-law Jan Schreiner; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marvin Schreiner; and a sister, Norma Jones.
