Wilbert Spencer, Sr.

Wilbert "Willy" Spencer Sr., age 81, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at JourneyCare Hospice in Chicago, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial gathering will be held at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna on Sunday, July 7th, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, with a luncheon following at Manny's in Savanna.

Willy was born July 21, 1937, in Milledgeville, Illinois, the son of Robert and Lucille (Moddie) Spencer. On August 15, 1959, Willy married Betty Chapman. They celebrated 24 years of marriage until Betty’s passing. Willy worked for the Chicago Northwestern Rail Road for over 25 years.

Willy will be dearly missed by his four sons, Wilbert Spencer Jr., Randy Spencer, and Mark (Pia) Spencer, all of Savanna, and Steven Spencer of Davenport, Iowa; one daughter, Candy Spencer of Savanna; six grandchildren, Shawn, Jessica, Cody, Tyler, Cory, and Justyn; and eight great grandchildren, Gage, Wyatt, Xavier, Ariana, Maisyn, Aubrielle, and Kynzliegh.

Willy is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille; wife Betty; two sisters, Irene Hebeler and Marguerite Crawford; and two brothers, Merle and Joe Spencer.
