Wilbert C. Spencer Jr. of Savanna, IL, passed away Thursday, September 1, in Savanna. A celebration of Wilbert’s life will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.
Wilbert was born August 13, 1960, son of Wilbert and Betty (Chapman) Spencer. His father worked on the railroad, and Wilbert would help his dad working on the trains. Wilbert grew up in Carroll County and went to schools in Thomson, Savanna, and Mt. Carroll. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the class of 1978. Later in life Wilbert would marry the love of his life, Ellen Spencer.
In his free time Wilbert loved to fish the banks of the Mississippi River with his family. He was a pretty good fisherman, as long as he stayed awake. He also enjoyed fixing up cars and working with his hands
Wilbert will be dearly missed by his three children, Shawn (Jenni) Spencer of Wisconsin, Jessica Spencer of Tomahawk, WI, and Cory (Christina) Spencer of Thomson, IL; five step-children, Catherine (Todd) Guyton of Colona, IL, Chris Schork of Clinton, IA, Candance Schork of Iowa City, IA, Charles Schork of Rockford, IL, and Curtis Martin of North Carolina; twelve grandchildren; four siblings, Randy spencer of Savanna, Mark Spencer of Savanna, Candy Spencer of Savanna, and Steve Spencer of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews. Wilbert is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; and parents, Wilbert and Betty.
