Wilbert G. Robinson, age 93, of Miles, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Mill Valley Nursing Home, Bellevue, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Preston, Iowa. Reverend Gregory Geier will officiate. Burial will be in the Miles City Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Jackson County Historical Society Post Office Box 1245 Maquoketa, Iowa 52060 in Wilbert’s name. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangments provided by Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa.
Wilbert was born June 22, 1912 the son of Dearborn David and Albertha Jean (Mangler) Robinson in rural Miles, Iowa. Wilbert married Helen Ann Ostert on August 15, 1934; Helen passed away on November 1, 1971. On March 14, 1964, Wilbert married Mary Alice Winchip, she died on January 7, 2004.
Wilbert owned and operated Robinson’s Excavating, he was proud to be one of the first bulldozer operators that did bulldozing in Jackson County in 1939. He farmed most of his life, retiring in 1984. Wilbert was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello, Iowa. He was active in his church and a former member of the Church Council. Wilbert very much enjoyed traveling.
Wilbert is survived by; two half-sisters, Sue (David) Hammond of Sophia, North Carolina and Lula (William) Thompson of Yucca, Arizona; three half-brothers, Rance (Karen) Robinson of Clute, Texas; Wayne “Sam” (Rita) Robinson of Miles, Iowa and Richard (Patricia) Robinson of Goose Lake, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his wives; his brother, Glen Robinson in 1992; a half-brother, Melvin Mangler in 1984; and his cousin (with whom he was raised), Violet Hafer in 1997.
