Wayne E. Voeller, age 64, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Wayne was born on November 11, 1959, in Aberdeen, SD, the son of Richard and Phyllis (Craft) Voeller. He grew up in Aberdeen, where he attended local schools and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the class of 1978. Wayne pursued his education, earning a degree in construction trades from Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, SD.
After completing his studies, Wayne lived in several cities, including Madison and Rockford, before settling in Milwaukee, WI. It was in Milwaukee that Wayne’s life changed forever when he met Peggy Williams in an online chatroom for avid readers. They quickly formed a deep connection and were married on September 21, 2002, at Point Rock Park. Together, they celebrated 21 years of love and partnership. In 2022, they made their home in Mt. Carroll, where Wayne enjoyed the peace of small-town life.
Wayne had a passion for working with his hands, often taking on home remodeling projects with friends. He was a craftsman and enjoyed using his mini lathe to create beautiful items like pens and bowls. Wayne’s love for bowling brought him joy, and he was a dedicated member of the Mt. Carroll bowling league.
A lifelong outdoors-man, Wayne developed a love for hunting in his youth, and he continued this passion well into his later years. He was also a lover of animals, especially dogs, and over the course of his life, he and Peggy rescued three Newfoundland dogs, giving them a warm and loving home.
In his quieter moments, Wayne could often be found reading science fiction and Western novels or enjoying his favorite TV series. He had a deep appreciation for classic country music, especially the old-time legends. Above all, Wayne cherished spending time with his family. His wife, Peggy and family (both actual and chosen) were the center of his world, and he found his greatest joy in their company.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife, Peggy Voeller of Mt. Carroll; his son, David Voeller of Madison, WI; five siblings, Earl (Suzanne) Voeller of Rapid City, SD, Tammy (Bob) Webster of Davenport, IA, Scott Voeller of Aberdeen, Lana Feekes of Pipestone, MN, and Lisa (Darcy) Hedlund of Pipestone; sister-in-law, Cathy Williams of Freeport, IL; brother-in-law Tim (Tami Burgi) and his family of Las Vegas, NV; many nieces and nephews; his God children; and all the members of the Margarita Club. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Phyllis; his brother, Merle Voeller; and his nephew, John Voeller.
