Wayne L. Trost

Wayne LaVerle Trost, age 84, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Monday, April 20, 2015, at Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, with Pastor Mike Nesbit officiating. Inurnment will take place in Woodbine Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Wayne's memory.
Wayne was born November 22, 1930, in rural Stockton, Illinois, the son of Alva and Dorothy (Stevens) Trost. He attended Warren High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. On January 11, 1953, Wayne married Leona Krohmer in Elizabeth. In 1951, Wayne started work at Atwood Vacuum Machine in Stockton as a tool and die apprentice and retired in 1993 as plant manager.
Wayne was very active in his community, serving on the boards of the Elizabeth School District, Elizabeth Fair, Elizabeth Nursing Home, Apple River Fort, and the Jo Daviess-Carroll Area Vocational Center. He was active with BSA Troop 33 and also was Scoutmaster for many years. To his great joy, both his sons and two of his grandsons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Wayne was a longtime and loyal member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. Wayne was a master woodworker and lovingly crafted many gifts for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he thought the world of.
Wayne touched the lives of his family, friends and all those he met in a very special way. He was known for his generosity, creativity, humor, and glowing optimism in the face of adversity. His care, concern, and love for others could be seen in his ever-present smile.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Leona; three children, Steven (Wendy) Trost of Monroe, WI, Bruce (Brenda) Trost of Miramar Beach, FL, and Patricia Klein of Mt. Carroll, IL; seven grandchildren, Susan (Thad Krippendorf) Schubert of Stockton, IL, Carson (Ileana) Barnett of Murray, KY, Brian (Erin) Trost of Oshkosh, WI, Jeffrey (Julia) Trost of San Francisco, CA, Lori (Dan Aeling) Barnett of Freeport, IL, Scott (Julie) Trost of Chicago, IL, and Craig (Megan Tenboer) Trost of Madison, WI; and two great-grandchildren, Brodie and Leela Barnett.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert (Thelma) Trost and Derryl Trost; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Krohmer and Gotthold Mueller.
