Wayne B. Meyer, age 79, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his home in Elizabeth. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover, Illinois with Father Noel Jacob as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Law–Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth with a rosary service being held at 6:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s name.
Wayne was born on November 24, 1930, the son of Bernard and Cecelia (Reinert) Meyer in Aurora, Illinois. He attended Marmion Military Academy and graduated with the Class of 1948. Wayne married Barbara Hankes on September 6, 1952 in the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Aurora, Illinois. Barbara passed away on October 11, 2007.
Wayne worked as an Order Distribution Manager for International Harvester in Aurora. Wayne and Barbara raised their family in Westmont, Illinois from 1954 until 1983. Wayne retired in 1990 and moved to Elizabeth in 1994. Wayne moved to Jo Daviess County because he loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting with his camera. He also enjoyed feeding his hummingbirds and building birdhouses. Most of all, Wayne loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Wayne will be dearly missed by one son, Bill Meyer of Lombard, Illinois; two daughters, Sue (Jim) Grommes of Hanover, Illinois and Cindy (Ron) Simik of Bolingbrook, Illinois; six grandchildren, Brian Simik and Daniel (Blanca) Simik, Margaret, Jonathan and Phillip Grommes and Zachary Meyer; and two great grandchildren, Madelyne Jean and Luckas Wayne Simik.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and was reunited with his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara.
