Wayne W. Mackeprang, age 92, formerly of rural Sabula, Iowa—and more recently, of Prairie Hills Assisted Living Center, Clinton, Iowa died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, in Bettendorf, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Burial will take place in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston.
Wayne was born June 4, 1922, the son of William and Theresa (Jess) Mackeprang of rural Sabula, Iowa. He attended Shady Dell School, rural Sabula. He worked at the Savanna Ordnance Depot before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in Germany and France during WWII until being discharged in 1946. On July 20, 1943, Wayne married Harriett Kelley at the First Methodist Church, Clinton, Iowa. They spent 62 years together before Harriett’s death on June 30, 2006.
Wayne was a farmer who spent his life working on the Mackeprang Century Farm. He was a member of the Miles United Methodist Church and cherished being a volunteer driver for people with cancer. Wayne belonged to a variety of organizations including the American Legion, Farm Bureau, Masons and was a past member of the Miles School Board of Education. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, writing, and traveling. Most of all, Wayne loved spending time with his family.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his three daughters, Linda (Burt) Elder/Pearl of Sedgwick, Maine, Susan Brown of Clinton, Iowa and Peggy (Patrick) Kedley of Lowden, Iowa; one sister, Vera Fuller of Toledo, Iowa; and a brother, Carroll (Minnie) Mackeprang of Webster, Texas. Six grandchildren, Kelley Elder, Kim Flowers, Eric Brown, Kate Kedley, Ryan Kedley and Dan Kedley. Eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
