Wayne Allen Hesselbacher age 71, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elizabeth Community Fire Protection District or the Elizabeth Community Ambulance Service.
Wayne was born February 12, 1944 the son of Ralph and Violet (Winter) Hesselbacher in Elizabeth. He attended Bethel School, Freeport High School, Iowa State, Chaffey College and graduated from Cal State in Hayward, California with a Graduate Degree in History Education. Wayne married Marilyn “Lynne” Magnuson on June 6, 1964. They lived in California, Washington State, and Montana before moving to Elizabeth in 1974. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2014. Lynne passed away May 31, 2015.Wayne taught high school for three years in California. He later went to work in Feed Sales at the Elizabeth Mill, and he later owned and operated Hesselbacher Seed Service.
Wayne was a member of the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department for seventeen years, a Cub Scout Master, Green Hills Girl Scout Council member and a long-time member of the Elizabeth Golf League. Most of all he treasured the time he spent playing cards and board games with his family, friends and his beloved grandchildren.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his son, Allen (Beth) Hesselbacher of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; daughter, Kristin (Jeff Heinrich) Hesselbacher of Janesville, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Zach, Harry, Emily, and Hannah; two brothers, Eugene (Vivian) Hesselbacher of McConnell, Illinois, Ron Hesselbacher of Pembroke Pines, Florida; two sisters, Verlee Kassel of Rockford, Illinois, Kay Hesselbacher of River Falls, Wisconsin. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Lynne; parents; a brother, Ralph Jr.; sister-in-law, Peggy and a brother-in-law, David Kassel.
