Wayne J. Heiar enjoyed being out doors working for several National Parks and farming. He passed away at the age of 79, Monday, October 21, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa, one day prior to his 58th wedding anniversary.
Wayne was born the son of Norbert and Catherine (Malone) Heiar on February 2, 1934 in St. Donatus, Iowa. He attended Agricultural school in Dewitt, Iowa. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in Austria during the Korean Conflict. On October 22, 1955 Wayne married Natalie G. Paysen at the Assumption Church in Charlotte.
Wayne worked as a farmer for thirty years. He also worked for the Department of Interior National Park Service for eight years. In those eight years he held several different positions. He worked as an assistant manager for the Federal Transportation Company at the Grand Canyon, Arizona. Wayne was a Naturalist Interpreter for the National Park service at Everglades National Park in Florida. He also was a National Park ranger at Mt. Rushmore National Monument, in the maintenance division. When he was finished working for the Park Service, he retired back to the farm where he raised sheep and owned and operated Heiar Hill Mobile Home Park in Charlotte, with his wife.
Wayne was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus in Preston, Iowa and AMVETS Post in Charlotte. He was a part of the Promoted Avenue of Flags at the Assumption Cemetery. Wayne had a great work ethic and enjoyed working. He also was an avid coon hunter and trapper. He had enjoyed snow mobiling, traveling, and camping. Most of all he loved spending time with people and never met a stranger.
Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife, Natalie of 58 years; his three daughters, Melodie (Mark) Schutt of Wheatland, Iowa, Joy Lipscomb of Spring Grove, Illinois and Heidi (Bryon) Hicks of Maquoketa, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three step- grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd (Mary) Heiar of Clinton, Iowa. Wayne is preceded in death by one son, James Heiar; both parents, Norbert and Catherine; a son-in-law, Terry Lipscomb; one brother, Gerald Heiar; two sisters Viola Heiar and Corrine (Ed) Tillis.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Father Scott Lemaster as Celebrant. Burial will take place at Assumption Cemetery, Charlotte. A Rosary Service will be held 4:30 p.m. with visitation from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at Miller Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston.
