Wayne Eugene Hass, age 69, of rural Miles, Iowa, died Friday, February 20, 2009, at home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa, with Pastor Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Miles. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2009, at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston. A memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s memory.
Wayne was born on November 11, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Sikie (Andresen) Hass. He attended Clinton Schools and served in the United States Navy. On June 19, 1960, Wayne married Marie E. Baker in Clinton, Iowa at the Zion Lutheran Church.
Wayne worked at McKinney Chevrolet in Preston and Bickelhaupt Motor Company in Clinton for twenty-five years. He was also a self-employed farmer and mechanic. He enjoyed playing cards, target shooting, Nascar racing, and time with friends and neighbors. Wayne was a former Boy Scout Leader in Miles, were he received the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed taking the Boy Scouts on camping trips. Most of all Wayne loved the time he spent with his family.
Wayne is survived by his wife Marie; daughter, Peggy (Dave) Vanhorn of rural Miles; two sons, Bill Hass of Clinton, Bob (Michelle) Hass of Oxford Junction, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Elayne Anderson of Clinton, Iowa, Janet Baconawa of Fayette Ville, North Carolina, Janette Peace of Provo, Utah; numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and his brother Arnie.
