Warner Charles Hartman, age 94, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, went to his eternal rest January 23, 2010, from Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Harkness officiating. Burial will follow in the Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or to the Local Chapter of the American Cancer society.
Warner was born in Fair Haven Township, Chadwick, Illinois, on February 14, 1915, to Fred C. and Mary J.J. (Mohrman) Hartman. His education began in Hartman one room grade school and continued through Chadwick High School, graduating with the Class of 1934. Warner married Irma Rose Boothby on September 1, 1940, in the Mt. Carroll Methodist Church Parsonage. They were the parents of two children; a daughter Hazel Lorraine, and a son, Lowell Eugene. Irma Rose passed away on August 29, 1983. Warner married Elinor (McKee) Peterson on February, 12, 1986, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. Elinor passed away March 11, 2002.
Warner was a lifelong farmer of Carroll County, being actively engaged in his chosen lifestyle until the age of 90 when he retired. Warner enjoyed church membership, officer responsibilities, and activities within Hope Evangelical Church, his boyhood church, Hickory Grove United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, and the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church. He served several terms on the Chadwick School Board, served 14 years on the Carroll County Board, and enjoyed membership in the Carroll County Farm Bureau for over 70 years, and participated in many farm and social organizations.
Warner is survived by his daughter, Hazel (Leroy) Getz, Savanna, Illinois; a daughter – in – law, Judith Hartman, Milledgeville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Lori (Martin) Getz Kyger, Rock Falls, Illinois, Ronald (Linda) Getz, Savanna, Steven (Michele) Hartman, Chadwick, Illinois, Jeffrey (Michelle) Hartman, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and Melissa Hartman (Fiance Sean Pearson), Moline, Illinois, six great – grandchildren, Riley and Lakin Getz, Sabreena and Samantha Hartman, and Michael and Travis Hartman; one step – daughter, Jaci Lewis, Morrison, Illinois; one nephew, Lloyd (Colleen) Hartman, Oro Valley, Arizona; three nieces, Betty (Ralph) Geesey, Mt. Carroll, Mary (John) Boelkens, Mt. Carroll, and Elizabeth Hartman, Mt. Carroll.
Warner was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Lowell; two wives; and his brother, Harold B. Hartman.
