Ward Rogers, age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. Funeral services will be held 1:00p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll with a military flag presentation. Visitation will be held from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be mailed to the Rogers Family, 428 Welty Avenue, Rockford, Illinois 61107 Memorials may be given to the Mt. Carroll Library in Ward’s honor.
Ward was born May 8, 1924 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Charles C. and Lucille Mae (Woods) Rogers. He was a Senior in High School during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Ward enlisted in the United States Marine Corps becoming a Second Lieutenant during WWII. He then attended the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts in 1947. Ward married Marilyn Ruth Edwards May 30, 1945 in Mt. Carroll. They had many productive years together. She died February 26, 1996.
After leaving military service, Ward worked as a professional chef at the Old Elm Country Club in Elmhurst, Illinois from 1947 - 1949. He was employed at Clinton Engine, Maquoketa, Iowa from 1950-1951. Ward then worked as an Industrial Designer for General Electric in Morrison, Illinois from 1951-1971. He taught drafting at a college in Racine, Wisconsin from 1971 - 1974. Ward and Marilyn operated the Dairy Bar Restaurant in Mt. Carroll from 1976 to 1986. He then worked 17 ½ years for the Mt. Carroll Post Office until 1991. Ward was a member of St. Ann Episcopal Church of Morrison. He is a past president of the Mt. Carroll Historic Preservation Committee. Ward enjoyed writing a column called “Remember When” in the local Mirror Democrat Newspaper. He also found great satisfaction in his painting, listening to big band music, collecting antiques, sharing stories and talking with friends.
Ward will be dearly missed by two daughters, Renee Rogers Jensen of Rockford, Illinois and Toni (Hamid) Razvi of Keller, Texas; his son, Douglas (Cheryl) Rogers of Rockford, Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and a brother, Charles (Jan) Rogers of Joliet, Illinois. Ward is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn and a son, Ward J. Rogers.
