Wanda Lee Ganzer, 91, of Spragueville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Maquoketa Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston Iowa. Burial will be in the Spragueville Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the Church from 9:15 AM until 11 AM.
Wanda was born September 28, 1934, to Gerald and Myrl (Flagel) Stamp. She attended North Bend Country School for her elementary education and graduated from Maquoketa High School with the Class of 1952. After high school, Wanda attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she obtained her teaching degree.
Her first full-time teaching year was in Spragueville at the rural country school, and her last full-time teaching position was at North Bend Country School, the same school she had attended as a child. After that, she continued serving students as a substitute teacher in the area.
After retiring from teaching, Wanda became an assistant postmaster and later served as Postmaster in Spragueville until her retirement in 2009. Following retirement, she looked forward to the Tuesday Brown Bag Lunches at the Clinton Engines Historical Museum in Maquoketa, as well as any North Bend School events.
Wanda was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville, where she was involved with the church choir and council. She also enjoyed being the next-door neighbor to many of the pastors’ families at Salem and continued to correspond with many of them at Christmas.
Wanda married Allen Ganzer on June 19, 1955, in Andrew, Iowa. Allen passed away May 20, 1992. They raised three children and celebrated 36 years of marriage until Allen’s passing.
Wanda will be dearly missed by her three children, Randall Ganzer of Spragueville, Wendy Ganzer-Henningsen and her husband, David, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Larry Ganzer of Spragueville; four grandchildren, Jacob Henningsen, Brooke Cook, Brittney and her husband, Mitch Stephens, and Gena and her husband, Levi Wine; and four great-grandchildren, Isabelle Cook, Gavin Stephens, Gabriel Stephens, and Ruah Wine.
She is also survived by her brother, Neville Stamp of Goose Lake; a cousin, Donna and her husband, Dave Termont, of Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Daniels of Miles, Iowa, and Karen Ganzer of Spragueville; brother-in-law, Carl and his wife, Judy Ganzer, of Maquoketa; and many nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen; two sisters, Marilyn Ehlers and her husband, John, and Janet Christy and her husband, Donald; sister-in-law, Stephanie Stamp; brothers-in-law, Richard Ganzer and Paul Ganzer; and niece, Tammy Mead.
