Walter Eugene Potter, age 88, of Preston, Iowa, died Monday, February 11, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Reverend Gregory Geier of the Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Friday, February 15, at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery in Preston, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in Walter’s memory.
Walter was born on July 29, 1919, in Canton, Iowa, the son of Eugene B. and Wilma (Rickert) Potter. He attended school in Emeline and Maquoketa, Iowa. Walter served in the United States Navy from 1944-1945. During his enlistment he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Bridget in the South Pacific.
Walter was an Electrician and Mechanic for many years. He also worked for a filling station in Phoenix, Arizona. He enjoyed Harness Racing and loved to visit with the Owners and Drivers. Walter also enjoyed working on lawn mowers. He always looked forward to going on deliveries with his friend, Bob Kilburg. Walter loved spending time with his friends.
Walter is survived by his two sisters, Hazel Dornbush of Clinton, Iowa and Betty (Harvey) Mogel of Pekin, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister.
