Walter “Tiny” Loomis, age 85, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Savanna. Burial with Military Rites will take place in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Savanna. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Savanna.
Tiny was born March 22, 1933, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the son of Perry and Alma (Smith) Loomis. He attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Tiny enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He worked in the U.S Postal Service for 28 years. On August 3, 1958, Tiny married the love of his life Donna Johannsen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls, Illinois. Tiny was a 50-year member of the American Legion Van Bibber Hansen Post #148 in Savanna. He was past commander and past county commander of the American Legion.
Tiny will be dearly missed by his wife, Donna; two daughters, Doriene Loomis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Diane (Kevin) Ritenour of Savanna, Illinois; two grandsons, Travis (Angelique Goswick) Ritenour and Aaron Ritenour of Savanna; and one great granddaughter, Emelia. Tiny is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Marvin, Merton, Laverne and Rollyn; and sister, Edna.
