Walter E. Ege, age 79 of Elizabeth, Illinois died Wednesday, May 06, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth.
Walter was born June 4, 1935 at home in Woodbine Township, the son of Herman and Lenore (Spoerl) Ege. He attended Stockton High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. Walter honorably served in the United States Navy. On April 6, 1958 Walter married the love of his life Shirley Albrecht. They celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage. Walter was a life long farmer and he was very meticulous about making sure everything was taken care of correctly. He truly enjoyed farming, milking cows, tinkering on the farm following his retirement. He had always believed that if something breaks you fix it.
Walter was a member of the Men’s Club, Church Council, Choir, Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau Director for eight years, he was Secretary of the Local AAL Branch, Board of Directors of Woodbine Mutual Fire Insurance. Walter was faithful in reading his bible and in his final days felt comfort from his family who read special readings to him.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Shirley; two sons, Jeff (Diane) Ege of Warren, Illinois, Ron (Sherry) Ege of Elizabeth; two daughters, Jennifer (Ron) Zimmerman of Harker Heights, Texas, Rhonda (Leslie) Bonvillain of Elizabeth; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen (Richard) Corwin of Durand, Illinois, Virginia Thompson of Freeport, Illinois. Walter is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucy Ege.
