Vonda Lou Fehlhafer, age 69, of Lanark, Illinois, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2009, at Lanark Church of the Brethren, Lanark with Pastor John Sgro officiating. Burial will take place in the Lanark Cemetery, Lanark. A visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Lanark Fire Department, Lanark Church of the Brethren or to Freeport Hospice in Vonda’s memory.

Vonda was born at home on May 28, 1939, in Elgin, Iowa, the daughter of Eddie C. and Wilma E. (Green) Boleyn. She married Edward C. Fehlhafer on April 28, 1957 in Elgin. After Vonda and Ed were married they moved to McGregor, Iowa and began raising a family.

Vonda and Ed lived in various cities and towns before deciding to make their home in Lanark, Illinois in 1971. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Prowant Construction, Lanark for several years. Vonda also kept busy by cleaning homes and babysitting children in her home. She loved to travel and enjoyed taking trips all over the United States in their fifth wheel. Vonda and Ed spent their winters in Texas, where she helped with fish fries, holiday dinners and was active in the mission sewing group where they quilted blankets for those in need. Vonda was a member of the “Dizzy Dames” Carroll County Red Hats and she attended Lanark Church of the Brethren, where she participated in church functions. Most of all, Vonda cherished spending time playing cards and reading books with her grandchildren.

Vonda is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Ed; three sons, Gary (Heidi) Fehlhafer of Mount Carroll, Tommy (Sue) Fehlhafer of Princeton, Illinois, and Donald Fehlhafer of Lanark; one daughter, Susan Fehlhafer of Pekin, Illinois; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Pauline Howard of West Union, Iowa, and Ruth (Casey) Stephany of Sioux City, Iowa.

Vonda is preceded in death by her parents; one brother Gerald Boleyn; two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Eula Asmus.
