Vivian Eldora Edgerton

Vivian Eldora Edgerton, age 92, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at her home in rural Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at the United Presbyterian Church, Hanover, Illinois. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Savanna Food Pantry in Vivian’s memory.
Vivian was born on June 30, 1918, the daughter of Clifford Sumner and Laurel Cyntithia (Sullivan) Whittington in Mercer County, Illinois. Vivian married Earl Steele Edgerton on March 21, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa. Earl died on September 5, 1972.
Vivian was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She later worked for the Eaton Corporation in Hanover, before retiring in 1998. Vivian was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church, Hanover and was involved in several church circles. She moved to rural Savanna in 1998, where she enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. In her younger years, Vivian loved living on a farm and riding horses. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre and Bridge. Most of all, Vivian cherished spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vivian will be dearly missed by her four children, Don (Colleen) Edgerton of Hanover, Ada (Terry) Fisher of Freeport, Illinois, Dean (Cindi) Edgerton of Yorktown, Virginia and Verda (Darren) Gochee of Maple Park, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren, David (Sara) Edgerton, John (Tammy) Edgerton, Robert (Cary) Edgerton, Andrew, Daniel, Aimee and Aric Edgerton, Terri (Melvin) Bennett, Becky (Jim) McGlynn, Amy (Robert) Charlesworth, Chris (Greg) Mohr, Kyle (Nettie) Embry and Vernon Gochee; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Speer of Hanover and Betty Slaymaker of Albany, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; two infant children; one brother, Glenn (Frances) Whitington; and two brothers in-law, Raymond Speer and Robert Slaymaker.
