Virginia Y. Derrickson

Virginia Yvonne Derrickson, age 95, of Mt. Carroll, IL passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Allure Nursing Home, in Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 2pm at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will take place from 12pm to 2pm before the service. Virginia was born April 26, 1926 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Jeanett (Holst) Dann. On December 1, 1943 she married Virgil Derrickson. They would go on to have six sons. Virginia worked as a press operator for Atwoods of Mt. Carroll for 27 years, retiring in 1983.

Virginia was a member of Center Hill United Brethren Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, birdwatching, and rummaging through garage sales. On her more social occasions, she loved a good game of cards or Chinese checkers, and the occasional night of gambling. But most of all, she especially loved time with her family. Family reunions, and any accompanied travelling always put a smile on her face.

Virginia is survived by five sons, Dennis (Karla) Derrickson, of Milo, IL, Dean Derrickson, of Mt. Carroll, Duane (Robin) Derrickson, of Evansville, WI, Gary (Bobbie) Derrickson, of Mt. Carroll, and John (Beth Phillips) Derrickson, of Mt. Carroll; nine grandchildren; and many more great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Darline Berowski and Ardis (Richard) Spaulding. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jeanett; husband, Virgil; son, Steve Derrickson; sisters, Betty Martin, Nancy Keller, Janet Rae Dash, and Doris Thomson; brothers, John Dann, Arnie Dann, and Donny Dann.
