Virgil "Tige" R. Mccue

Virgil “Tige” R. McCue was a hardworking, caring man, who loved driving his Cadillacs. Tige died at the age 92 on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Antl Hall. Burial will take place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities in Tige’s memory.
Tige was born February 27, 1922, the son of Thomas and Pearl (Kahler) McCue in Savanna. He attended Savanna High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on December 23, 1942, serving his country in the South Pacific during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Virgil married Betty Nicoletti on September 21, 1952 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. He worked as a supervisor for the Savanna Army Depot from 1941 until his retirement in 1973. He was a lifetime member of the Savanna VFW, the Moose Lodge, and the Disabled American Veterans 37th Division. Tige loved spending time on the river and mowing with his John Deere riding mower. Most of all, Tige treasured spending time with his wife, Betty, and the Sally and Dude Ritchie family.
Tige will be dearly missed by two sisters, Mildred Etnyer and Norma Merkel; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Thomas and Pearl; one brother Ralph, and an infant brother, Thomas.
