Violet S. Rodden, age 105, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January, 12, 2008 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Violet’s name.
Violet was born October 16, 1902, the daughter of William and Ruth (Kearney) Schaible in Hanover, Illinois. She attended the Derinda and Pleasant Hill country schools. On September 08, 1921, Violet married George Rodden. Violet was employed by the Savanna Army Depot during World War II, and the Korean War. She worked as a waitress in Elizabeth for many years. She later went to work for the Eaton Corporation for fifteen years retiring in 1980. Violet also enjoyed working with the Past Matrons Club, the Nursing Home Auxiliary, and the Senior Songsters.
Violet enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking, but most of all she loved enertaining her friends and family. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Violet will be dearly missed by one son, Jim Rodden of Elizabeth; one daughter in-law, Rosemary Rodden of California; and three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; one brother, Glenn Schaible of Warren, Illinois.
Violet is preceded in death by her parents; husband George; two sons, Leverne and Loren; two sisters, Ora Wadleigh and Jessie Petitgout.
