Violet J. Handel, age 74, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 in Finley Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Reverend Thomas Moe of the First United Methodist Church, Savanna will officiate. . Violet was born November 14, 1931 in Guilford Township, Illinois the daughter of LaVerne and Berneta (Hancock) Curtis. She attended country schools and graduated from Hanover High School, Hanover, Illinois, Class of 1949. On August 13, 1950, Violet married Harold Handel, he passed away on February 13, 2004. Violet’s family was most important to her, she dedicated her life to raising her six daughters and working with her husband on the family farm. Violet very much enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and her great grandson. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, living in the country, having holiday gatherings and listening to country music. Violet will be dearly missed by her mother, Berneta Curtis of Savanna, six daughters, Barbara (Duane) Helin of East Dubuque, Illinois, Deborah (Lyle) Schreiner of McAlester, Oklahoma, Lynn Haas of Savanna, Roxanne (David) Jacobs of Dubuque, Iowa, Kimberly (Richard) Cook of Clinton, Iowa and Karen (Lonnie) Robinson of Savanna; one sister, Kay Ryniewicz of Bensenville, Illinois; one brother, Virgil Curtis of Spring Lake, North Carolina; four grandsons, William (Tracy) Haas, Ryan Haas, Adam Haas and Robert Robinson; one great grandson, William Keith Haas; three nieces and three nephews. Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her father, LaVerne; and one brother, Leland Curtis.
