Viola A. Hay, age 94, of Monroe, Wisconsin, formerly of Warren and Elizabeth, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at the Monroe Manor in Monroe, Wisconsin. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Elizabeth with Father James Canova as Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Elizabeth. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 112 E. Washington, Elizabeth, Illinois or Monroe Clinic Hospice, 515 22nd Ave, Monroe, Wisconsin 53566 in Viola’s memory.

Viola was born on December 29, 1912, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Banworth) Groezinger in Woodbine Township. Viola married Edward Teppert on December 29, 1942, and they farmed near Elizabeth for many years. Edward died on January 21, 1972. Viola later married Kenneth Hay on November 25, 1977, and they lived at Apple Canyon Lake for many years. They were able to take several trips to different areas of the country through the Jo Daviess County Livestock Association. They moved to Warren for several years and Kenneth died on December 2, 1997.

Viola farmed in Thomson Township until 1962, when she moved to Elizabeth. She worked for Eaton Corporation in Hanover, Illinois and later for Curtis-Breed Electric in Elizabeth. Viola was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Elizabeth, where she was active in the Alter and Rosary Society. Among her hobbies, Viola was known for her skills in gardening, sewing, and bird watching. In her younger, she enjoyed riding and taking care of horses. She was always a good listener and was very perceptive of people and events.

Viola is survived by her six stepchildren, James (Janet) Hay of Janesville, Wisconsin, Nancy (James) Wikstrom of Rockford, Illinois, Tom (Judy) Hay of Warren, Rodger (Caryl) Hay of Rockford, Illinois, Ruth (Alton) Sherman of Belleville, Wisconsin, and Robert Hay of Palatine, Illinois; twelve step grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren; two nephews, Harvey Kloss and Tom Kloss, both of Elizabeth; two nieces-in-law, Joan Kloss and Beverly Kloss, both of Elizabeth; sixteen great nieces and nephews and twenty-seven great-great nieces and nephews.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Leone Kloss; and three nephews, Russell, Robert and Stanley Kloss
