Victor J. “Vic” Dauphin, age 91, of Savanna, Illinois, died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 30 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Reverend Robert Hamilton of the Community United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given in Vic’s name for Mercy Hospice, Clinton, Iowa.
Vic was born October 13, 1914 in Savanna, the son of Victor E. and Mattie (Palmer) Dauphin. He attended the Union Grove Country School, rural Savanna. Vic married Vera Ruth Gillespie August 18, 1939 at Hanover, Illinois. She passed away August 24, 1995.
Vic farmed all of his life near Savanna. He also worked eight years for the Savanna Twp. Road Commissioner and eight years for the Savanna School District as the Grounds Keeper. Vic enjoyed farming, gardening and tinkering with his old tractors. In younger years he liked to hunt, fish and camp. He was known by many as a very considerate and thoughtful person. Vic was a member of the Savanna Community United Church of Christ and the Savanna Moose Lodge.
Vic will be dearly missed by his two sons, Howard (Diane) Dauphin of Mt. Carroll, Illinois and Victor E. Dauphin of Savanna; three grandchildren, Darrin Dauphin, Eric (Bridget) Dauphin and Dennis Dauphin; two step grandchildren, Robbie Bahr and Lisa (Phillip) Mills; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Lessetta (Joe) Seitz of Savanna, Dorothy Malone of Savanna and Hazel (Harold) Brinkmeier of Mt. Carroll; two brothers, Fred (Geraldine) Dauphin of Savanna and Palmer (Margaret) Dauphin of Savanna; and special friends, Harold and Marlys Drier.
Vic is preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Victoria; two brothers, Paul and Ben; and both parents.
