Victor “Vic” Mason age 85, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his niece Dena by his side on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. Burial of ashes will take place in Evergreen Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016, with military rites accorded by the Hanover VFW Post #5300.
Vic was born on December 1, 1930, in Hanover, the son of John and Leona (Phialmlee) Mason. He attended Hanover High School. At the age of 17, Vic enlisted in the United States Navy and served onboard the USS Valley Forge as a gunner’s mate during the Korean War. Vic worked for Jo Carroll Electric in Elizabeth for 38 years as a Groundman Truck Driver.
Vic enjoyed raising exotic pigeons. Most of all, Vic loved spending time outdoors; gardening, fishing, hunting everything including morel mushrooms, ginseng and animals.
Vic will be missed by his dedicated brother in-law, Wayne Wand of Elizabeth; six nieces; one nephew; many great nieces and nephews. Vic was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Mason and a sister, Jo Anne Wand.
