Victor T. Fitzpatrick, age 95, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the Alverno Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Alverno Nursing Home or the First United Methodist Church in Clinton in Victor’s memory.
Victor was born February 6, 1915, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Thomas and Emily (Neuns) Fitzpatrick. Victor proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Nola LaShelle in 1936. She preceded him in death. Victor later married Helen Hopkins Chase on October 29, 1983, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She preceded him in death in May of 2005.
Victor worked as a switchman for the Burlington Railroad, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Victor was a former member of the Savanna V.F.W. and American Legion, Railroad NARVE, and the Moose Lodge. In his younger years, he enjoyed boxing, dancing, swimming and working around the house.
Victor is survived by one step daughter, Diana Wade of Rock Island, Illinois; two step sons, Kevin (Barbara) Chase of Clinton, Iowa, and Kenneth (Susan) Chase Jr. of Wesley Chapel, Florida; seven step grandchildren and several nieces.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Nola and Helen; one sister, June Kelsey; and one brother, Douglas Fitzpatrick.
