Veronica Determan

Veronica C. Determan age 96, of Preston, Iowa died Tuesday, December 03, 2013 at the Alverno in Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sugar Creek with Father Scott Lemaster as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston. A rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to visitation. A memorial fund has been established in Veronica’s memory. The family would like to thank the Alverno Staff for their care and compassion.
Veronica was born July 8, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Christena (Proost) Diedrick in Charlotte, Iowa. She married Oliver Determan on June 30, 1936 in Charlotte, Iowa. Oliver passed away May 4, 1992. They farmed in the Sugar Creek area for many years before retiring and moved to Preston. Her favorite part about farming was taking care of her chickens. Veronica worked for the Goose Lake School for sixteen years as a cook and retired in 1981. She loved serving the students and knew all of there names.
Veronica was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Women’s Club, Senior Citizens, Alter and Rosary Society and the Red Hats Club. She thoroughly enjoyed going out to dinner. Veronica truly loved hearing the Sugar Creek Choir sing when they came to visit her.
Veronica is survived by many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Veronica is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oliver; three brothers, Ray, George, Leo, Nick in infancy; four sisters, Rosemary Diedrick, Viola Diedrick, Margaret Mussman, Catherine Reuter.
