Vernon C. Rosenbery, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at his home in Galena. A visitation will be held at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth, IL on Friday, March 15 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A visitation and funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, IA beginning at 1:30 p.m., with the burial to follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Vernon was born on July 13, 1928 and raised on a 160-acre farm 2 miles south of Chadwick, IL. He was a proud graduate of the University of Illinois, B.S. Civil Engineering, and began his career with a job at North American Aviation in Los Angeles, CA designing fuselages for F-86 Saber fighter jets.
He returned to the Midwest to work for the IA DOT in Manchester, IA where he met his future wife, Marilyn Guetzko, who he married in October 1956. He began working for Foley Construction in 1960 and later became sole owner. Throughout his life, Vernon loved to fish, play cards, pitch horseshoes and support Illini sports.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn, and 5 children: Brian (Ellen) of Malibu, CA; Sarah (Mark) Twedt, of Eagan, MN; Marcia (Dan) Berman of Sun Prairie, WI; Aaron (Joyce) of Lakeville, MN; Amy (Kristen) of Arlington, VA; and 6 grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lucille, and by his brother Orval, who perished aboard the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941.
