Vernelda "Toots" Helen Roeder

Vernelda “Toots” Helen Roeder, age 94, of Spragueville, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Jackson County Medical Center, Maquoketa. A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, July 22, 2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10 – 11 am Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Spragueville Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston.

Vernelda was born November 12, 1927, in rural Green Island, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Dorothy (Marburger) Jackson. She attended country schools. On September 23, 1946, Vernelda married Lester Roeder. They celebrated 63 years of marriage until Lester’s passing.

Vernelda was a homemaker and helped her husband with farming. She enjoyed crocheting. She liked to do yard work and tend to her flowers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. Vernelda was always thinking of others. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston.

Vernelda will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews. Vernelda is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Dorothy, her husband Lester, her brother Walter Jackson, and a sister Kathryn Beck.
