Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Verna Kay Schave, 78 of Morrison, Illinois joined our Lord Above on June 20th, 2021. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 26th, at the Milledgeville Brethren Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Verna was born July 8th, 1942, daughter of Earl and Francis Hammond. She was raised in Moline, IL. Her senior year of high school Verna met the love of her life, Dennis Schave, at a 4-H sock hop held in the quad cities. The couple hit it off instantly, and would marry in 1963. Together Dennis and Verna raised nine children, and celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Verna loved gardening. She spent many hours at green houses, picking and choosing the perfect combination of flowers and plants in order to attract as many hummingbirds to her home as she could. She also enjoyed history, and had a special interest in the rich history of the local area. She liked to visit small museums, as well as historical native american sites.
Verna dedicated her life of caring service through her nursing career and raising her family of nine children. Her family was at the center of her heart. She was the host for many family celebrations around the holidays, and pulled of these large family gatherings with style and grace. Verna loved being a mother and grandmother. Her kind heart and generous nature will live on through her family.
Verna is survived by her loving Husband Dennis Schave, son Shannon wife Marsha Schave, son Ryan wife Nancy Schave, son Eric wife Karin Schave, daughter Amy husband Joel wiseman, daughter Leah husband Brad Grenoble, daughter Erin Schave, daughter Abbi husband Cristobal Huesca and son Noah wife Carrie Schave along with her sister Nancy and husband Bob Varner. Verna’s blessings in life live through her remaining 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Preceding her death was her son Richard Schave, mother and father Francis and Earl Hammond, mother and father in-law Forrest and Margaret Schave.
