Verla Mae Sturtevant, age 81, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Provena - St. Joseph Center, Freeport, Illinois. Verla was born May 18, 1924 in Stockton, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Hintz) Breed. She attended Stockton schools, and graduated from Stockton High School, Class of 1941. On January 26, 1946 Verla married Jack Paul Sturtevant in Dubuque, Iowa. Jack passed away on October 6, 1998 in Clinton, Iowa.
Verla very much loved and enjoyed her family, close friends and her cat "Suzie". In her younger years, Verla worked at the Savanna Army Depot. She then worked at Eaton Corporation in Savanna as a Quality Control Inspector for twelve years.
Verla was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna and the Savanna Women of the Moose. She enjoyed reading, dancing, crocheting, gardening, taking long rides in the country and listening to Big Band Music, blues and jazz.
Verla will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Vicki (Robert) Marquardt of Algoma, Wisconsin and Jackie (Jon) Jones of East Moline, Illinois; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Breed of Stockton, Illinois; and two sisters in-law; Martha Canavan of Savanna and Hazel Breason of Chicago, Illinois.
Verla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; three brothers, Murnice, Ross and Carson Breed; and two sisters, Earline Hunt and Aleda Belle Albrecht.
