Vera Elaine Mennenga, age 75, of Savanna, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Vera’s memory.
Vera was born June 20, 1937 in Sterling, the daughter of Vernon Lester and Barbara Ellen (Grove) Harden. She attended Sterling High School and graduated with the Class of 1955. Vera married Ronald H. Mennenga on February 24, 1957 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling. She worked at Eaton in Savanna and Hanover for thirty-four years until her retirement in 2000.
Vera enjoyed puzzles, playing games and going to the casino. Most of all Vera cherished the time that she spent with her friends and family.
Vera is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of fifty-six years, Ronald of Savanna; two sons, Dale (Sandy Bradley) Mennenga of Freeport, James Mennenga of Fulton, Illinois; three daughters, Linda (Daniel) Connor of Frisco, Texas, Patti (Kevin) Foley of Savanna, Illinois, Sharon Bahumes of Arlington Heights, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ellen Penhava of Sterling, Irene Mae Thielen of Sterling. Vera is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Earl Harden; a sister, Lettie Wolber; one son, Steven; two daughters, Kathy and Karen; one grandson, Joshua and a grand daughter, Katie.
