Vera Cecelia Eadie, age 89 of Hanover, Illinois passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover, Illinois. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A memorial fund for local charities has been established in Vera's memory.
Vera was born December 1, 1924 in Hanover, the daughter of John and Anna (Whalen) Atkins. When she was a young girl during the Great Depression, the family moved to the country on a farm and she attended the Edgerton Country School. Vera graduated from the Hanover High School with the Class of 1942. In 1950, Vera married Ralph Eadie in Hanover. They celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage. Ralph passed away in 2009.
Vera loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved getting involved in the community, most recently working on establishing the Hanover Veteran's Memorial, and helping to save the old Hanover High School trophies. She attended the Hanover United Methodist Church and was a member of the Hanover Lions Club, and the Hanover VFW Auxiliary where she served as President from 1971 - 1972 and 1975-1976.
In her younger years, Vera worked at Sandman's Drug Store in Hanover; the Savanna Army Depot; drove school bus for the Hanover School District for eight years and also operated a gift shop for three years called The Kubby Hole. Throughout her life, Vera enjoyed being amongst friends and visiting.
Vera is survived by two daughters, Colleen (Don) Edgerton of Hanover and Carolyn (Mike) Wingert of Kent, Illinois; a son, William Eadie of Hanover; eight grandchildren, David (Sara) Edgerton, John (Tammy) Edgerton, Robert (Cary) Edgerton, Andrew, Daniel and Aimee Edgerton, and Katie and Emma Wingert; seven great grandchildren, Nolan, Connor, Ryan, Zoey, Alexander; Grant and Colin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vera is preceded in death her husband; a son in infancy, John Edward; a sister, Genevra Bundy and both parents.
