Velma C. Wagner, age 77, of Genoa, Illinois, previously of Savanna, died Friday, August 3, 2007 at Dekalb County Nursing Center, Dekalb, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna with Reverend Ronald Abbott of York Community Congregational Church, Thomson, Illinois officiating. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. Friends may call from 9:00– 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Velma’s name to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Velma was born May 30, 1930, the daughter of Orville and Lois (Hunter) Hatfield in Mountain, Wisconsin. On February 15, 1968, Velma married Albert R. Wagner, he passed away in March of 2002.
Velma enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. She worked for a while at the Savanna VFW, she later worked as a Crossing Guard for the Genoa-Kingston School District. Velma always enjoyed riverboats, gardening, watching game shows on television, she was a Chicago Cubs Baseball Fan and a Green Bay Packers Football Fan. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her grandchildren.
Velma will be dearly missed by her son, Mark (Donna) Wagner of Kings, Illinois; a daughter, Denise (Roy) Tomlinson of Byron, Illinois; two grandchildren, Alex and Eli; a sister, Clarissa Clemments of Gaastra, Michigan; two special nieces, Barbara Kessler and Beverly (Richard) Atherton; many nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, “Al”; one infant son, Scott; five brothers; and four sisters.
