Velma Margaret Trenkamp loved being a Grandma. At the age of 87, she passed into Heaven Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Eagle Point Nursing Facility, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Church with a Rosary Service at 3:45 p.m. Sunday and a Scripture Wake service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
Velma was born October 23, 1926 in Preston, the daughter of Cornelius and Mary (Majerus) Thines. She attended the Sugar Creek Country School. She married Raymond Trenkamp on February 10, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston.
Velma was a homemaker, and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved quilting, gardening, planting flowers, and especially spending time with her family.
Velma will be dearly missed by her husband Raymond of Preston; her six children, Laurence “Larry” Trenkamp of Preston, Lonnie (Lola) Trenkamp of Preston, LaVerne (Jann) Trenkamp of Preston, Beverly (Allen) Hansen of Ainsworth, Nebraska, Constance “Connie” (Dean) Chrest of Preston, and Mary Lou (Larry) Johnson of Maquoketa, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vennetta Mootz, and Marion Trenkamp of Preston. She is preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Thines; three brothers, LaVerne, Lawrence and Cornelius Jr. Thines, and her parents.
