Timothy Dean Schoenig

Timothy Dean Schoenig, 72, of Savanna Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on January 12, 2025. Born on February 21,1952, in Clinton, Iowa, to Ronald and Mary Jane (McCreery) Schoenig. Tim lived a life marked by service, hard work, and generosity. He graduated from Thomson High School in 1971, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Army National Guard, proudly serving until 1977.

On January 22, 1972, Tim married Sena (Mitchell), and together they raised 2 children: Michael (Amanda), and Heather (Doug). Tim’s love for his family was unwavering, and he dedicated his life to providing for them and ensuring their wellbeing.

After leaving the military, Tim began his career in plumbing and heating under the mentorship of his stepfather, Bing. He soon turned his trade into a lifelong profession, establishing Schoenig Plumbing and Heating in Savanna, where he became a trusted name in the community. He later transitioned to working for the City of Savanna Public Works as head of the Water and Sewer Department, a role he held with pride until his retirement in 2019.

However, true to his nature, Tim didn’t quite know the meaning of retirement. He continued to serve his community by overseeing the water department for the old Army Depot and for Carroll Heights, up until the time of his passing. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his passion for his craft was evident in everything he did. To Tim, if you love what you do, it’s never work; a sentiment that truly defined his life.

Tim is survived by his wife, Sena; his son, Michael (Amanda); daughter, Heather (Doug); four grandchildren, Andrew, Griffin, Carter, and Noah; three sisters, Nancy, Jane (Dale), and Judy (Barney); and a half sister, Cari (Brian). He is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Schoenig and Mary Jane Kampling, and uncle, Darrel McCreery.

A visitation will take place Saturday, January 18th, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois with a funeral to follow at 12:00 p.m. All are invited to attend a luncheon immediately following the service at Manny’s in Savanna. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in Tim’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
