Timothy "Tim" M. Miles

December 7, 1940 — October 15, 2015

Timothy Minard (Tim) Miles. 74, of Denver, Colo., a native of Mount Carroll, passed away quietly in his sleep in the early morning hours of Oct. 15, 2015, after a brief illness. Tim was born Dec. 7, 1940, in Mount Carroll, the youngest of four sons of Owen P. and Helen M. Miles. He grew up in Mount Carroll and was graduated from Mount Carroll Community High School in May, 1958.
He attended the University of Wyoming where he was active in Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration in June, 1964. After a brief stint with Xerox, Tim worked for several years for The Deutsch Co., a California based electronic components company, where he became industrial sales manager.
In 1971 Tim was the second person hired by Grubb and Ellis Co. when it opened its real estate brokerage office in Denver. He became one of the most successful real estate brokers in Denver real estate brokerage history and was highly respected by real estate colleagues and clients alike. His many clients over the years have included Texaco, Mobile, AT&T, Metropolitan Life, New York Life, Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Norwest Banks, Tabor Center, Wells Fargo, Brookfield, Brown Investments and Monticello Associates among many others.
He won numerous top producer awards during his career. Tim was a professional salesman in the very best sense of the term. On or near his desk until the day he died was the following quotation: "Our business is not about getting what we want but helping our clients get what they want.” His depth of knowledge about the office building business and the Denver market was highly respected by colleagues and clients. He retired from Grubb and Ellis in 2010 after 39 years, the longest term of service in the history of Grubb and Ellis' Denver office.
Tim loved the outdoors from childhood and spent most of his non-working hours hunting, fishing and working with his beloved Labrador Retrievers. He was a frequent subject of hunting and fishing stories on the Outdoor pages in the Denver Post. He also served on the University of Wyoming Foundation Board of Directors.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers. He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends, all of whom will miss him.
A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Denver Country Club. As he requested, cremation has occurred and interment will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mount Carroll.
