Thor Thorsen peacefully passed away on March 25, 2021, of prostate cancer surrounded by loved ones. Thor was the son of Olga and Tor Torsen and was on born Sept. 24, 1936. He graduated from Kelvyn Park High School, Chicago, IL. He married Janet Struwe on January 25,1957, at St. Timothy Church in Chicago, IL. Together they raised five children. He worked at Parkway Gallery, Color Graphics, Quality Color, Woodbine Golf Course, and together in partnership with his son, Ken, they owned and operated the Accurate Professional Color Lab. Upon retirement, Thor enjoyed living simply off the land for 30 years. He was one of many individuals who helped in the formation of the Hanover Township Park District and then was a board member for eight years. As a trustee, Thor was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He was also active in the Hanover Lions’ Club and in getting the food pantry started in Hanover. He treasured the friendships he made and loved his community of Hanover.
Thor is survived by 5 children: Mike and (Jean) Thorsen of Park Ridge, IL; Ken and (Kim) Thorsen of Elizabeth, IL; Janet and (Ken) Carlson of Hawthorn Woods, IL; Mary and (Bob) Nolan of Hanover, IL; Karl and (Mindy)Thorsen of Elizabeth, IL; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way) and 3 siblings: Karl Thorsen, Karen O’Grady, Andrew Thorsen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Tor Torsen; brother, Ole Thorsen and sisters: Cecilia Jachimowski and Elsa Abraytis.
