Thomas Dewitt Mills

Thomas DeWitt Mills, age 67, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at home. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Inurnment will be in Savanna Township Cemetery. A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held at St. John’s Antl Hall following the committal service at the cemetery. Memorials may be made in Tom’s name for the American Cancer Society.
Tom was born August 5, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Bette (DeWitt) Mills. He attended St. John’s Catholic School, Savanna and the Savanna High School. Tom was very proud when he received his G.E.D.. He married Jeannine Davis August 17, 1956 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Tom worked a variety of jobs including selling Rena Ware; Railroad Carman, Switchman, Conductor, and Yard Master for the Burlington Railroad; and was self-employed in real estate for many years. He was a member of the Savanna Chamber of Commerce and the Savanna Main Street Association. He enjoyed community projects, boating, car rides and family events. His family was most important to him.
Tom will be dearly missed by his wife, Jeannine Mills of Savanna; four daughters, Rena (Jon Wright) Mills of Scotts Valley, California, Sheri (Tracey) Castro of Savanna, Kimberly (Chris) Falk of Savanna and Michele (Rockie) Mangler of Savanna; six grandsons; three granddaughters; and one great granddaughter; his mother, Bette Allison of Savanna; three brothers, Ed (Rene) Mills of Savanna, Paul (Sue) Mills of Savanna and Jack (Meridith) Mills of Fouke, Arkansas; three sister in-laws, Sandra (Tom) Bourrette of Hanover, Illinois Deborah (Jerry) Garvey of Savanna and Marci Davis of Clinton, Iowa.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, his son, Todd, a sister, DiAnne Noles and special in-laws, Lillian and Clifford Davis.
