Thomas “Tom” David Kilpatrick, age 72, of Hanover, Illinois, died on January 31, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to F.H.N. Hospice in Tom’s memory.
Tom was born December 26,1937, the son of David and Marion Kilpatrick in Savanna, Illinois. He graduated from Hanover High School with the Class of 1955. Tom joined the United States Navy serving his country from 1955-1958 aboard the USS Hailey-DD556, stationed in Newport, Rhode Island and Boston, Massachusetts. He was a member of The Tin Can Sailors. He married Julie O’Brien from Boston, Massachusetts on February 13, 1958 in Hampton, New Hampshire. For their 50th they went on a long-awaited trip to Ireland where both ancestors were born.
A farm boy who enjoyed working outdoors at his home “Semor Acres” where he helped build their home on land above his boyhood farmstead. He retired from Savanna Army Depot Fire Department as an Assistant Chief in 1992 after 29 years. He enjoyed working on various farms and at the Chestnut Mountain Lodge. Tom was a member of Hanover Fire Dept for many years and was a lifetime member of the Hanover VFW. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and watching the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs.
Surviving are his wife, Julie, son Mike (Lori) Kilpatrick of Florissant, Missouri; two daughters, Linda(Scott) Levens of White Hall, Arkansas and Karen(Brian) Birdy of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, Lauren and Kristin Kilpatrick , Annette (David) Davison, Justin (Laura) Levens, Sara Levens and Gregg, Russell and Jessica Birdy; one great granddaughter, Shelby Davison; a brother Robert Kilpatrick of Leslie, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Ann Kilpatrick and one brother, John Kilpatrick
