Terry Hammer Sr., age 51, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at his home. A visitation will be held Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 2 – 4 pm at the Savanna Law – Jones Funeral Home with a time of remembrance at 3:30pm. Inurnment will follow at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Terry’s memory.
Terry was born July 9, 1957, in Morrison, Illinois, the son of Glenn and Goldie (Dalton) Hammer. He attended school in Colorado, and graduated from Pueblo High School. Terry served in the United States Army before being medically discharged. He married Tammy Weipert, they later divorced and remained friends.
Terry worked as a carpenter, traveling across the county, mostly in Texas, Colorado, and Florida, working on various construction sites. He also worked for McGinnis Melons in Thomson, Illinois. Terry was a kind hearted and humble person who loved spending time with his all of his family. He always made time to go family functions.
Terry is survived by two sons, Terry Hammer, Jr. of Florida, and Jameson (Amy) Horton of Clinton, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (fiance Tom Helt, Sr.) Hammer of Florida, and Tasha Horton of Clinton; eleven grandchildren; three brothers, Duane (Karen) Hammer of Milledgeville, Illinois, Allan (Phyllis) Hammer of Savanna, and John Hammer of Pueblo, Colorado; four sisters, Karen (John) Stevenson of Galena, Illinois, Pam (Jim) Green of Coleta, Illinois, Glenda (Jimmy) Moore of Thomson, and Debbie Hammer of Pueblo; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Hammer; one sister, Sharon Parker; and one nephew, David Hammer.
